As New York Lesbians Up the Fashion Ante, A New Line of Clothing is Born
On July 21, 2012, Dangerous Mathematicians will unveil a collection of high-end, tailored wedding attire geared towards the lesbian community.
“We go way beyond the tux and gown paradigm. New York is ready to see non-traditional, LGBT-inspired wedding wear enter the mainstream.”, says Karen Patwa, owner and head designer at Dangerous Mathematicians. “The LGBT community is giving society as a whole an opportunity to redefine, personalize, and modernize traditional looks. Same-sex wedding styles are already starting to influence traditional wedding fashion.”
Dangerous Mathematicians is currently enjoying a surge of interest in their same-sex wedding designs. Their sleek, feminized, tailored designs recently made the cover of the Spring 2012 issue of Rainbow Wedding Network Magazine. Ms. Patwa is a trailblazer of the growing resurgence of the wedding suit, pens an advice column on this site, and has been designing lesbian wedding outfits since 2007.
Stylish downtown reception hall City Winery will be the venue for this groundbreaking event, presented in collaboration with the New York LGBT Wedding Expo.
Expect high-end fabrics, tailored details and real lesbian couples modeling side by side.
Collette McLafferty of Rock Rebel Rising and DJ Ashu Rai of Sholay Productions (Desilicious) will collaborate on the music for the show. Says Ms. Patwa, “Same-sex couples don’t have to match literally, but elements of their attire can connect them, whether it’s fabric, colors, design details, or just a concept.”
